Javan Myna

Javan Myna (Acridotheres javanicus)
Tampines, 13th June 2010

This was one of six dead Javan mynas that I’d found within a small area at the void deck of my block. I suspect that this was a localised case of poisoning, although it’s impossible to tell whether this was a case of deliberate culling of mynas, or whether the mynas had consumed poisoned bait meant for feral pigeons (Columba livia).

In any case, I hope the local stray cats had the sense not to scavenge from these carcasses, and that nobody allowed their pet dogs to have a little feathered snack.
