Centipede (Scolopendra sp.)
Pulau Ubin, 29th February 2012

This dying centipede was seen by Jocelyne Sze, who shared it on Facebook.

Although the centipede was still capable of crawling about, the fact that the front part of its body had been crushed meant that it probably was not going to remain alive for much longer.

Find out how you can contribute to Monday Morgue too.

The literature states that there are 2 large (and potentially dangerous) centipede species in Singapore; based on the coloration and comparison with photographs from a Google image search, my guess is that this is Scolopendra morsitans.
