Daily Decay (7th January 2017): Pearl Conch (‘Gong-gong’) (Laevistrombus turturella) @ Chek Jawa

A collision between two container vessels, the Wan Hai 301 and APL Denver, off Pasir Gudang in Johor resulted in approximately 300 tonnes of oil being spilt into the Straits of Johor. Some of this oil has since washed up on our shores such as Changi and Pulau Ubin, including Chek Jawa, and while cleanup efforts are underway, one wonders about the potential impacts this will have on the rich marine life that lives in these waters.
