American Bullfrog

American Bullfrog(?) (Lithobates catesbeianus)
Dairy Farm Nature Park, 15th July 2012

This carcass of a large frog was found by Ong SayLin. Based on the size, and the patterns on what remains of the skin on the legs, I believe that it might be an American Bullfrog. This non-native (and potentially invasive) species has been recorded from several locations in Singapore, most probably due to intentional release by people.

Kranji, 27th June 2011

This medium-sized frog was found on the KTM railway tracks that run through Kranji.

Based on the size and the patterns on the skin that remains on the legs, I suspect that it might be a subadult American Bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus).

Another possible alternative is that this was a large Crab-eating Frog (Fejervarya cancrivora).

American Bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus)
Neo Tiew Road, 20th December 2008

When I first encountered this bullfrog, it was still very much alive, and sitting by the road just outside Khai Seng Trading & Fish Farm. No prizes for guessing where it had just escaped from.

After some time, the bullfrog attempted to cross the road, and after a few near misses, it was finally struck by a passing car. A horrible end, even for an unwelcome, potentially invasive species.
